A pink-faced girl with blonde pigtails stumbled out of line, put on the hat, which fell right down over her eyes, and sat down. A moment’s pause – ‘HUFFLEPUFF!’ shouted the hat.

The table second from the left clapped this time; several Ravenclaws stood up to shake hands with Terry as he joined them.
Lần này tiếng vỗ tay vang lên ở dãy bàn thứ hai ở bên trái, nhiều thành viên trong nhà Ravenclaw đứng hẳn dậy và bắt tay với Terry khi cậu ấy đến ngồi vào bàn với họ.
‘Brocklehurst, Mandy’ went to Ravenclaw too, but ‘Brown, Lavender’ became the first new Gryffindor and the table on the far left exploded with cheers; Harry could see Ron’s twin brothers catcalling.
‘Brocklehurst, Mandy’ cũng vô nhà Ravenclaw nhưng ‘Brown, Lavender’ lại trở thành thành viên đầu tiên của nhà Gryffindor. Dãy bàn tít xa ở bên trái nổ vang những tiếng reo hò. Harry có thể thấy hai người anh sinh đôi của Ron đang huýt sáo mừng.
‘Bulstrode, Millicent’ then became a Slytherin. Perhaps it was Harry’s imagination, after all he’d heard about Slytherin, but he thought they looked an unpleasant lot.
Rồi thì ‘Bulstrode, Millicent’ được phân về nhà Slytherin. Có thể là do Harry tưởng tượng, nhưng sau những gì cậu nghe về Slytherin thì cậu nghĩ rằng họ chả dễ thương chút nào.
He was starting to feel definitely sick now. He remembered being picked for teams during sports lessons at his old school. He had always been last to be chosen, not because he was no good, but because no one wanted Dudley to think they liked him.

Sometimes, Harry noticed, the hat shouted out the house at once, but at others it took a little while to decide. ‘Finnigan, Seamus’, the sandy-haired boy next to Harry in the line, sat on the stool for almost a whole minute before the hat declared him a Gryffindor.
Harry để ý thấy, đôi khi cái nón hô ngay kết quả nhưng cũng có đôi lúc nó mất một lúc mới quyết định. “Finnigan, Seamus” – cậu bạn đứng xếp hàng kế Harry – ngồi gần như cả phút trước khi cái nón tuyên bố cậu ta vào nhà Gryffindor.
